Aiming for sustainability and just generally giving a shit about our environment should register on most peoples radars from time to time, especially when you can afford to make a difference here and there even if it is just a small one.
Thing is sometimes you wanna look fabulous while you do it.
Well, you can absolutely nail all of the above next time you need your lid sorting. Stephen and Anita have thought about every detail in their pretty damn rad salon Buller + Rice in Newington Green, London.
Hair aside for a minute, the space is beautifully designed. Its vibe is less hair salon and more trendy wine bar/ cafe lounge space with more than a touch of green life and some chic furnishings, like the tapestries courtesy of BFGF. Floor tiles are original, and each stylist station has been designed in collaboration with Lozi Design and Smile Plastics, combining sustainably produced bespoke plywood furniture and recycled plastic materials respectively, that helps make the physicality of the salon itself as sustainable and guilt free as possible.
And for your hair, not only have they ditched the wasteful foil strips in favour of recyclable paper ones, but their favoured product range by Oway is all biodynamic, natural goodness that is not only much friendlier for Mother Nature to produce, but works and smells ten times netter than any other gunk that has been through my hair. Plus bring back your empty pot/ bottle of product and they’ll refill it for you. Legends!
For the icing on the cake those babes also offer you a choice of locally roasted coffee, locally brewed beers, or biodynamic and natural wines. I mean jeez leave something for the rest of us will ya…
Anywho, don’t just take my word for it, Vogue and Wallpaper also had some pretty lovely things to say about these guys too.
So next time, don’t feel bad about it, just go for it.
Treat yo’self.
