What can be better than the smell of fresh sea air with the occasional hint of fish and chips (and mushy peas if you have any taste at all) while taking in the sites and sounds of that delightful Kentish seaside town of Margate…?
Haeckels. That’s what.
Specifically the St. John’s Cemetery / GPS 22’ 41”E Parfum. The cemetery (which as it would happen, is the location of the GPS co-ordinates, the running theme of the parfum range) is engulfed by old, massive pine trees, along with a few naturally cross-pollinated younger plants, and that’s what you get. Tonnes of pine. Fresh with a hint of woodiness. It’s sexy. And when I wear it, I’m… well, I smell better.
But that’s not where the sexiness stops, no sir. Their flagship store in Margate is one of the loveliest spaces I’ve ever been in. I mean yeah sure it has an amazing sea view but who needs that when the interior is lined with delicious vintage display cabinets, old school wooden filing systems, and tonnes of natural features. With gorgeous displays, spot on subtle and not so subtle lighting in every direction, old apothecary bottles, bell jars, massive tester sink station. It’s got everything.
When we were there they were also finishing off their treatment rooms upstairs in the rest of the building. Imagine. A full on body massage with a view of the sea at the same time. I’ll be returning pretty soon I reckon, probably in nothing but a robe. (You can reserve via here)
Their products are 100% natural, all sustainably and ethically soured, packaging is recyclable or made of reclaimed wood (see the parfum range in the pic), the staff are bloody lovely, and the space is a dream. Everything about Haeckels add a beautiful air of approachable class to Margate, whether you’re a resident or not.
If you can’t get down there, then have a good old browse on the online shop as there is something for everyone.
Smell great, and feel great about it.
