Another coffee post? Breathtaking… but as always there’s a bit more to it.
Extract Coffee have introduced their third seasonal ‘hero’ espresso coffee, and like its other seasonal brothers and sisters Unkle Funka and Strong Man/ Woman (which unless my hand gets lobbed off in the near future you’ll hear about on here too) has got another great cause at its heart.
Ethiopia Skate are a registered non-profit organisation focussed on providing a physical and mental outlet for young people in the form of skateboarding, and have built Ethiopia’s only two free skateparks to aid it.
Extract’s co-founder David Faulkner grew up boarding in South Africa, so this was a natural partnership. As part of the Kickflip launch, their goal is to collect 100 boards/ decks to send over to Ethiopian children as a ‘way to give back to the communities of this incredible coffee-producing nation.’
Sweet.
The espresso itself is also bloomin’ delicious. Washed Heirloom from 650 smallholders in Gedeb, Yirgacheffe, and processed at the Worka Wuri mill, it is bright and sweet as you like. Tasting notes are apple crumble, candied fennel seed and lemon, and as usual bang on the nose. It’s my favourite flat white I’ve had this year so far by a mile.
You can get your hands on some for home right here, or if you pop in to their roastery or London base at Sustainable Workspaces they’d be happy to pull you a shot. Their blog has more about the board amnesty and a few more options of where to drink it so have a read.
“Heaven is a flat white”.
Those that know, know.
